I have become Tour de France Obsessed

I've been spending way too much time glued to the TdF these days. Stuck on the Outdoor Life Network...You might ask 'How can you get live coverage while at work now that OLN does not offer the live feed over the web?' eurosport.co.uk! While their European commentators seem to root for anybody BUT Lance at least I get to hear the race which is more than I can say for OLN. Im not sure why OLN elected not to do the webcast this year. They did it for the Giro for a small fee and I would have gladly paid the $7 monthly fee to hear Bob Roll over Sean Kelly.

The sad part is actually having to explain to people that its actually INTERESTING to watch bicycle racing on TV. Recently I was watching a commentator on ESPN explain why the thug of the week in the NBA needed a second chance after an arrest for whatever reason and then segue into the TdF being boring 'Who cares about a bunch of guys on bicycles chasing another guy on a bicycle'.

Another guy on a bicycle? Lance is arguably the greatest cyclist ever and hands down the greatest TdF rider ever. A boon to his sport in America and possibly the world's most recognizable athlete and this jerk on ESPN knows more about Allen Iversons arrest record than professional cycling. ESPN which I've avoided watching over the last few years for this very reason .... it is less about sport than it is the daily gossip column and rap sheet. Don't get me started on the poker!

Here's to OLN without which the only stage I would see of the TdF is the final stage in Paris. My sympathies to Jan and Vino (although as I write this they're attacking in the Pyrenees)....Go Lance!Sean Mayhew
